Congratulations to Professor Chris Simon for Groundbreaking Research on Immigrant Military Recruitment

Professor Christopher Simon's research on immigrant willingness to serve in the military has been featured in @theU. The study, published in Armed Forces & Society, examines how conflict type and citizenship status affect the decision to serve in the U.S. and Canadian armed forces. Simon's findings highlight that immigrants are significantly more willing to serve in their adopted countries' militaries compared to native-born citizens.

The research sheds light on how immigrants’ appreciation for the values and opportunities provided by their host nations often motivates their willingness to protect and defend these countries. According to Simon, “immigrants’ commitment to the U.S. may be a lot stronger than people realize,” making them an important but overlooked source for military recruitment. Co-author Nicholas Lovrich also noted that the decline in native-born enlistments makes immigrant recruitment a critical factor in ensuring military readiness.
